The face on your character sheet has a lot to live up to.
You’ll spend hours being this character. Even between sessions, you’ll catch yourself wondering what they’d do next.
Their portrait becomes the face you return to every time you play. And for your party, it becomes the face they know your character by.
You can spend hours prompting ChatGPT and still look at the result and think, close, but that’s not quite my character.
👋 I’m Jan. I’ve completed over a thousand commissions since 2022, and I work on every portrait with my small team of vetted artists.
I start by understanding who your character is, then paint that into their expression and the way they carry themselves.
You don’t need the perfect brief or know specific art terms. Just tell me what you have in mind, even if some details are undecided, andI’ll help you figure out the rest.
Here’s how it works. I built this specifically for people who’ve never commissioned a portrait before.
1. Tell me about your character. The Character Quest takes about five minutes and guides you through their appearance and personality. I’ll read every word.
2. Claim your spot. Join the waitlist, and I’ll text you when it’s your turn to order. In about 2 weeks, you’ll see a polished, hand-painted portrait, not a vague sketch you have to interpret.
3. Get the details right. Tell me about any small changes you’d like, such as a color or expression. Those finishing touches are included, with no limit on revision rounds.
What you get:
A high-resolution digital portrait that matches the one you've been picturing, down to the details only you would think to mention.
Your character's own card in the Hall of Heroes, where hundreds of other players finally get to meet who you built. (And other special perks inside the hall)
A private commission page exclusive to my returning clients. When you're ready for your next character, you skip the waitlist line entirely.
Years from now, when you want to be back in that campaign, you won't open your notes. You'll look at this.
About Me
👋 I'm Jan. I'm a D&D player who paints other players' characters for a living.
I've been at the table. I know what it feels like to write a five page backstory nobody reads. I know what it feels like to describe your character to someone and watch their eyes glaze over halfway through. That's the reason FramedFantasy exists.
So when you say "tired, not angry" or "move the scar 2 inches left," I don't roll my eyes. I get why it matters. Your character has a specific expression, a particular way they hold their weapon, details that nobody else at your table notices. That's exactly what I'm here for.
A few things you should know about working with me:
I've delivered 1000+ portraits since 2022 and most of my clients had never commissioned art from anyone before. You won't be the first person who shows up nervous. You won't be the last either.
This is my full time job, not a side hustle, and I work on every commission with my team of vetted artists. That's how 1000+ portraits got made without rushing a single one. You talk to me the whole way.
Everyone on my team is paid for their work, so your order keeps real artists painting. Scheduled timelines, real updates, replies within one business day.
Straight pricing, no hidden fees, and a full refund if the first concept doesn't match your character. You take zero risk on this. I take all of it.
Your character has been living in your head long enough. Let's get them out.

The one worth getting right
You've spent hundreds of hours with this character, and made thousands of small choices about who they are. A two-minute image was never going to hold all that.
So I give this one the attention all those hours deserve, down to the details you'd never think to explain, until you look at it and see exactly who you've been playing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
If you’d like a hand putting your character into words, start with the free Character Quest.
You play a five minute adventure as your character and receive their blueprint and archetype card by email. You can use the blueprint as your brief.
4. I’ll read your details within 24 hours and ask about anything we still need to work out.
We’ll confirm the brief together before I start painting.
5. You’ll see your first polished preview in about two weeks once you’ve checked out, I’ve received all your details, and we’ve confirmed the brief together.
You can look over each version, mark the changes you’d like and ask for unlimited revisions within your brief in your hub.
Once you approve the portrait, your final high resolution files will be there for you to download.
Your hub keeps our messages, your details and each version of the painting together. You can mark a change on the art so I see what you mean.
The Quest is optional, so you’re welcome to send a written description instead. I’ll help with anything we still need to figure out.
Because most commissions are stressful and disorganized. You pay a stranger, then spend weeks wondering if they still remember your character. As a D&D player and an artist, I’ve seen it from both sides.
I wanted the complete opposite. Bringing your character to life should feel fun and exciting, the way it felt when you first made them.
A portrait of your character is a core part of your campaign. Once your table sees it, that’s the face they picture every session, so it ends up defining the whole story. Still, most players have never commissioned one. Commission horror stories scare them off, and I get why.
So I made the whole thing easy and fun on purpose, and I designed and built all of it myself. The Character Quest, the waitlist, this site, and the hub where you talk to me while my team and I paint.
I overthink capes for a living, so yes, I overthought every button too.
Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 5.0 / 5 from 657 reviews.
I've had nothing but good experiences with commissions from Jan and seeing my character brought to life has certainly made playing them all the more enjoyable. I will almost certainly be returning for either more art of my current character or a new character all together.
This was my first experience with commissioning artwork of any kind. After hearing many tales of commission experiences riddled with issues, I was honestly a bit nervous, but I decided to try anyway after finding Jan and Framed Fantasy. I am so glad I made that decision! Jan was an absolute pleasure to work with and I found myself much more at ease from the very first bit of communication! She was friendly, very on top of communication and the portrait of my girl Tav turned out exactly the way I always pictured her. Absolutely would recommend for any character that means something to you!
What an amazing first experience with getting character art made! I was apprehensive, but Jan was responsive, fast, and hit every high mark across the board. I only gave her details from my character sheet and backstory. I didn't have any references aside from a vague outfit reference, and yet she was able to perfectly capture Lyra's personality and look. I've already told her that I will be back for more art in the future. 5/5!
I absolutely love this commission! The character is a really fun concept—an Eladrin bladesinging wizard/rogue whose appearance and personality shift with the seasons—and Jan did an incredible job bringing that idea to life.
Each of the four seasonal versions feels distinct and full of personality. The different color palettes, small accessory changes, background details, and expressions add so much to the concept and really capture the different vibes I roleplay for her. It’s such a cool way to represent the character, and Jan executed it beautifully.
I especially love the details like the flying sword and the familiar—they add so much energy and personality to the piece and make the whole composition feel dynamic and alive.
Jan was also wonderful to work with throughout the process. She was very responsive and super easy to collaborate with when I requested changes, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. I’m incredibly happy with how everything turned out and would absolutely recommend working with her for D&D character commissions!
The best commission experience I have ever had! The artist Jan is professional, responds in a timely manner, and is consistent with updates. He is able to expertly manage all of the details you provide for your character and translates them beautifully into canvas. If you are looking to give your character the art they deserve at a reasonable price, then look no further because this is the place to be! Thanks again to Jan for making my Plague Doctor look SICK!
This character was someone who ONLY existed as an idea. I never wrote down a character sheet, tried to draw her, or anything like that. She was just something I made online once, inspired by a story. It was fun playing with her like a toy of sorts, but Jan has turned her into what I can only describe s a living thing. The color choices and the way they blend, the shapes, and the environment behind her. I don't know where or how Jan learned to draw like this, but it's easy to see that they can because they love to. And I love the results. Thank You, Jan.
Honestly I was scared at first, because I'm really picky with art, especially for my own creations.
But this experience was beside of the anxiety and doubt, worth it.
Jan managed to gather anything I described about the character into the picture, that I nearly heard her speaking out of it. Her eyes let alone, with the energy all together seemed to be alive.
It was a very easy and fast process and I have to come back again, for the friends this charaster has. I do love the artstyle very much, fits my idea of fantasy, it does kinda also look like something they would draw in this fantasy world by themself.
Sidepoints, Jan is very polite and helpful. (Helped me especially because this was my first ever experience with artists on Etsy, didn't disappoint at all!)
This was an enjoyable experience for me. Prompt, professional, friendly. Love the style and the final outcome of my character's portrait. Happy customer.
The artist delivered exactly what I wanted. She was very communicative throughout the entire process and took the time needed to get it just right. I couldn't be happier with the final product. I really enjoyed working with her and would happily do so again.
I cannot recommend Jan enough, she was so thorough with discussing the details and what I wanted from this art and the end product is even better than I could have imagined!! She really brought my girl to life, and I will definitely be coming back for any future commissions!
Once again, Jan made my character art visions come to life. This character is near and dear to my heart because she is my first, my Tootsie. Due to in campaign events there was a large stretch of time between my first one-shot with Tootsie versus her now in current campaign. I wanted art that showed both versions of this character and Jan ran with it beautifully. She took every piece of lore and backstory and brought it to life perfectly. Always a joy to work with.
Franzer was and is a character near and dear to my heart. The little troublemaker needed the right hand to capture the moxie and chutzpah of his personality, and Jan did that in spades. To look at him, you know he knows how this fight is going to go, and do you really want to find that out for yourself?
This was my second portrait with Jan, and as the first, she was very responsive to my wants at the start, and my comments for adjustments and tweaks - during the process she essentially invented an insignia that I intend to use as his mark in the future.
It was a pleasure working with Jan again, and it is not the last time. Highly recommended if you are looking for your RPG character, your story protagonist, or just the fantasy image you've imagined foreve and want to see made real.

Thank you so much, Noam! Likewise, it’s always a pleasure working with you, and I really appreciate the lovely review. I’m so glad I got to bring Franzer to life :)
I just loved working with Jan and all the add-ons and organized products she offered along the way!
Jan has been a consummate professional and a wonderful visionary. I've enjoyed working with her every step of the way! She's careful, considerate, and even thought of small details that I honestly hadn't before. She made my Returned weapon Master, Hrod, come to life far more realized than I ever could. If you have even an inkling that you'd like to have a character portrait made, Jan is the person to turn to!
As my first experience requesting character art, I truly appreciate Jan's method-her character blueprint sheet, emails asking particulars of chracter(s), her excellent customer service, and of course the final product!
Love that I have full commercial use, such HUGE plus.
Thank you so much, Jan. It was a pleasure working with you and I'm very happy with the chracter art!
Store owner replied:
Thank you Liset! It was a pleasure working with you as well! Glad you love the final portraits!
Jan is great to work with. Super talented, great images, and wonderful to work with. She has an easy creative process and asks detailed, helpful questions that ensure you're happy with the art.
Resubmitting a review because autocorrect got Jan's name wrong! Initially saw their art on Instagram and was immediately excited by the idea of a moving image of my character. From the quest to the blueprint to the actual commission process the entire journey was fun, transparent and collaborative. I hadn't commissioned anything for an OC or d&d character for myself before and this turned out spectacular. I really feel like all of the ideas stuck in my head got captured. 11/10 have already recommended!
Store owner replied:
Thank you Jennifer! It was a pleasure bringing Gleamorine to life! :)
Jan is an amazing artist to work with. Communication is on point and I was able to easily relate my character to her viva emails. I'm so thrilled with how the portrait of my character, Mance Deathstorm, was brought to reality. Definitely going to return as a customer again.
Working with Jan was wonderful. This was my first time ordering art of my character, and she did a fantastic job capturing all of the little quirks I asked for.
As a first time commissioner, Jan made it real easy to bring my character to life.
Jan was very friendly and responded quickly to emails about matching every detail I had envisioned for my character and seemed very invested in making this project with me.
I will be using Framed Fantasy again for all my future characters as I know they will be in good hands being made real with Jan:)
This is the second portrait I've comissioned from Jan of my girl Tav, and once again I could not be happier with how it turned out. She did such a wonderful job capturing her personality and the comfortable, lived in feel of the balcony I always imagined she would sit on after a long day of work at the courthouse. The care put into every detail really shows through, and as with last time, I would absolutely reccommend her for any character that means something to you!
Absolutely get your character illustrated by FramedFantasy. I came to her with a tight deadline, yet she nailed it. Thorough in questions and updates to ensure you get EXACTLY what you want. My fire genasi paladin, Lethira, is exactly as I envisioned her and I couldn't be happier.
About a week of back and forth emails and I got an awesome portrait of my level 8 wood elf! Her communication was great and she tried hard to get all the details right! I will definitely keep her in mind when I want other characters done!
I can't believe how much this commission is exactly what I had pictured in my head at the start of the process. Jan has an incredible talent of drawing out exactly what you want and nailing it! The revision process is a breeze (if even needed) and Jan is super quick to respond and never gives you a reason to worry you wasted your money. Highly recommend!
Jan was patient and great to work with. They asked great questions about my character before the process started and was a patient when things were quite right. Would highly recommend.
My first D&D character means a lot to me. And evolved into such a complicated design. I worried it was too much, even compared to Jan's resume. However, Jan was willing to listen and dive deep to bring my character to life. Worth!
Working with Jan is an incredible experience. She was very attentive and receptive to my hopes, and extremely patient with my editing requests. I'm grateful for her professionalism, and excited with with with her again.
They were fantastic! Listened to everything I said, stayed in contact regularly and the final project surpassed everything I hoped! Would come back again!
Jan
