There are things about your character that nobody else at the table knows.
The look they get right before they lie to the party. The one line they won't cross, no matter what the dice say. You know them like that because you've spent months playing them.
ChatGPT doesn't know your character, and it couldn't care less. You can prompt it for an hour and still get back something that's just "good enough".
For a random innkeeper, that's fine. Nobody's going to remember that face by next session anyway.
But your character is the exception.
You'll still be playing them next session, and thinking about them long after the campaign ends.
That's why they can't come back looking like a stranger.
👋 Hi, I'm Jan. That probably sounds a bit dramatic for what's technically just a picture. But after doing over a thousand commissions, I promise you it isn't.
But don't just take my word for it, just scroll down and read what hundreds of players say about finally seeing their character.
You might think you need the perfect brief, or know some specific art terms before you start. You don't, at least not with me. Knowing your character is the only part you need to bring. The rest is on me.
So here's how it works. I built this whole process around first-time commissioners.
1) You take the Character Quest. Five minutes, real questions, the kind nobody's ever bothered to ask about your character before. You answer. I'll read every word.
2) You secure your spot when it's your turn, then about two weeks later you see them. Hand painted, finished enough to judge, not a vague sketch you have to interpret. You sit with a polished portrait and tell me what's off.
3) We refine until it's perfect. Unlimited revisions. That's the moment that matters. And if the first version doesn't capture your character, you get every dollar back. That's the Heroic Money Back Guarantee. You pay for your character, not for attempts.
What you walk away with
Years from now, when you want to be back in that campaign, you won't open your notes. You'll look at this.
500+ five star reviews. 1000+ commissions since 2022. Zero ghosted clients.
Almost everyone who commissions me is doing it for the first time. Most spent months thinking about it before they said yes. Almost all of them told me the same thing after. They wish they'd done it sooner.
👋 I'm Jan. I'm a D&D player who paints other players' characters for a living.
I've been at the table. I know what it feels like to write a five page backstory nobody reads. I know what it feels like to describe your character to someone and watch their eyes glaze over halfway through. That's the reason FramedFantasy exists.
So when you say "tired, not angry" or "move the scar 2 inches left," I don't roll my eyes. I get why it matters. Your character has a specific expression, a particular way they hold their weapon, details that nobody else at your table notices. That's exactly what I'm here for.
A few things you should know about working with me:
Your character has been living in your head long enough. Let's get them out.

She lost an arm in a fight she had no business surviving, so she built a better one. Her scars are repaired with gold, her worst day made beautiful.
Jan

Lathander's knight found her courage the day her mentor was murdered. Now she walks the undermountain, mercy in one hand, her broken heart in the other.
Cortez

The one eladrin who could not turn her season, so she out-crafted every witch who mocked her. Now her mother's vision of doom walks her out of the Whisper Woods.
Cortez

His mother fled the spider queen's city so he could live gently, and he did, until unseen hands took his family. The fire in his chest does not go out.
Cortez

An aasimar of Bysaes Tyl, torn between elven kin and human overseers. Stars whisper to him in dreams, an Old One's voice he dares not name aloud.
orphan

Two hundred years as Cazador's and she walked out with her masks intact and her name her own. She is never going back, except once, to finish it.
Aanyah

Her sword is woven, not forged, and her tears are not sorrow. Everything she did made sense to her. She knows she cannot come back from it. She will not stop.
Jan

Nobility was perfect, which was the problem. Now she charms galas while her party robs them, and wonders in quiet moments if she's doing enough. She is.

You've spent hundreds of hours with this character, and made thousands of small choices about who they are. A two-minute image was never going to hold all that.
So I give this one the attention all those hours deserve, down to the details you'd never think to explain, until you look at it and see exactly who you've been playing.

2. Head to the Character Blueprint Quest. It takes about five minutes and walks you through everything I need to know about your character. Race, class, appearance, backstory, all of it.
Some clients go deep with the details. Others keep it simple and let me interpret. Both work great.
3. I review your blueprint and follow up within 24 hours. If anything's unclear, I'll ask a few quick questions to make sure I've got your vision right. Then I start painting.

I've had nothing but good experiences with commissions from Jan and seeing my character brought to life has certainly made playing them all the more enjoyable. I will almost certainly be returning for either more art of my current character or a new character all together.

This was my first experience with commissioning artwork of any kind. After hearing many tales of commission experiences riddled with issues, I was honestly a bit nervous, but I decided to try anyway after finding Jan and Framed Fantasy. I am so glad I made that decision! Jan was an absolute pleasure to work with and I found myself much more at ease from the very first bit of communication! She was friendly, very on top of communication and the portrait of my girl Tav turned out exactly the way I always pictured her. Absolutely would recommend for any character that means something to you!

What an amazing first experience with getting character art made! I was apprehensive, but Jan was responsive, fast, and hit every high mark across the board. I only gave her details from my character sheet and backstory. I didn't have any references aside from a vague outfit reference, and yet she was able to perfectly capture Lyra's personality and look. I've already told her that I will be back for more art in the future. 5/5!

I absolutely love this commission! The character is a really fun concept—an Eladrin bladesinging wizard/rogue whose appearance and personality shift with the seasons—and Jan did an incredible job bringing that idea to life. Each of the four seasonal versions feels distinct and full of personality. The different color palettes, small accessory changes, background details, and expressions add so much to the concept and really capture the different vibes I roleplay for her. It’s such a cool way to represent the character, and Jan executed it beautifully. I especially love the details like the flying sword and the familiar—they add so much energy and personality to the piece and make the whole composition feel dynamic and alive. Jan was also wonderful to work with throughout the process. She was very responsive and super easy to collaborate with when I requested changes, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. I’m incredibly happy with how everything turned out and would absolutely recommend working with her for D&D character commissions!

The best commission experience I have ever had! The artist Jan is professional, responds in a timely manner, and is consistent with updates. He is able to expertly manage all of the details you provide for your character and translates them beautifully into canvas. If you are looking to give your character the art they deserve at a reasonable price, then look no further because this is the place to be! Thanks again to Jan for making my Plague Doctor look SICK!

This character was someone who ONLY existed as an idea. I never wrote down a character sheet, tried to draw her, or anything like that. She was just something I made online once, inspired by a story. It was fun playing with her like a toy of sorts, but Jan has turned her into what I can only describe s a living thing. The color choices and the way they blend, the shapes, and the environment behind her. I don't know where or how Jan learned to draw like this, but it's easy to see that they can because they love to. And I love the results. Thank You, Jan.

Honestly I was scared at first, because I'm really picky with art, especially for my own creations. But this experience was beside of the anxiety and doubt, worth it. Jan managed to gather anything I described about the character into the picture, that I nearly heard her speaking out of it. Her eyes let alone, with the energy all together seemed to be alive. It was a very easy and fast process and I have to come back again, for the friends this charaster has. I do love the artstyle very much, fits my idea of fantasy, it does kinda also look like something they would draw in this fantasy world by themself. Sidepoints, Jan is very polite and helpful. (Helped me especially because this was my first ever experience with artists on Etsy, didn't disappoint at all!)

Franzer was and is a character near and dear to my heart. The little troublemaker needed the right hand to capture the moxie and chutzpah of his personality, and Jan did that in spades. To look at him, you know he knows how this fight is going to go, and do you really want to find that out for yourself? This was my second portrait with Jan, and as the first, she was very responsive to my wants at the start, and my comments for adjustments and tweaks - during the process she essentially invented an insignia that I intend to use as his mark in the future. It was a pleasure working with Jan again, and it is not the last time. Highly recommended if you are looking for your RPG character, your story protagonist, or just the fantasy image you've imagined foreve and want to see made real.

Jan has been a consummate professional and a wonderful visionary. I've enjoyed working with her every step of the way! She's careful, considerate, and even thought of small details that I honestly hadn't before. She made my Returned weapon Master, Hrod, come to life far more realized than I ever could. If you have even an inkling that you'd like to have a character portrait made, Jan is the person to turn to!

As my first experience requesting character art, I truly appreciate Jan's method-her character blueprint sheet, emails asking particulars of chracter(s), her excellent customer service, and of course the final product! Love that I have full commercial use, such HUGE plus. Thank you so much, Jan. It was a pleasure working with you and I'm very happy with the chracter art!

Resubmitting a review because autocorrect got Jan's name wrong! Initially saw their art on Instagram and was immediately excited by the idea of a moving image of my character. From the quest to the blueprint to the actual commission process the entire journey was fun, transparent and collaborative. I hadn't commissioned anything for an OC or d&d character for myself before and this turned out spectacular. I really feel like all of the ideas stuck in my head got captured. 11/10 have already recommended!

Jan is an amazing artist to work with. Communication is on point and I was able to easily relate my character to her viva emails. I'm so thrilled with how the portrait of my character, Mance Deathstorm, was brought to reality. Definitely going to return as a customer again.

As a first time commissioner, Jan made it real easy to bring my character to life. Jan was very friendly and responded quickly to emails about matching every detail I had envisioned for my character and seemed very invested in making this project with me. I will be using Framed Fantasy again for all my future characters as I know they will be in good hands being made real with Jan:)

This is the second portrait I've comissioned from Jan of my girl Tav, and once again I could not be happier with how it turned out. She did such a wonderful job capturing her personality and the comfortable, lived in feel of the balcony I always imagined she would sit on after a long day of work at the courthouse. The care put into every detail really shows through, and as with last time, I would absolutely reccommend her for any character that means something to you!
Aanyah B. 5/5 Verified
About a week of back and forth emails and I got an awesome portrait of my level 8 wood elf! Her communication was great and she tried hard to get all the details right! I will definitely keep her in mind when I want other characters done!

I can't believe how much this commission is exactly what I had pictured in my head at the start of the process. Jan has an incredible talent of drawing out exactly what you want and nailing it! The revision process is a breeze (if even needed) and Jan is super quick to respond and never gives you a reason to worry you wasted your money. Highly recommend!

Jan was patient and great to work with. They asked great questions about my character before the process started and was a patient when things were quite right. Would highly recommend.

My first D&D character means a lot to me. And evolved into such a complicated design. I worried it was too much, even compared to Jan's resume. However, Jan was willing to listen and dive deep to bring my character to life. Worth!

This isn't my first time here, and I admit that I have a specific set of wants when looking for artists to work with. I normally spend hours agonizing over details and wondering if my vision of a character is even possible, but FramedFantasy is one of the few I've gotten to work with who has been on top of things, communicative, and managed to execute my ideas with my minimal ability to describe! I can't recommend enough!!!!

I love working with Jan so much on all my character art for my novels!! She is absolutely WONDERFUL to work with, and if you can dream it, she can draw it! The quality of her work is always phenomenal, and I love her concepts so much. This last one I ended up needing both versions because I couldn't choose! If you're looking for an artist to bring your vision to life, she's your gal!!

This experience was so much fun! This commission process was both enjoyable and also thurough, there's not many people out there willing to gather and work with so much detail! I certainly cannot wait to get another one done. Fantastic services, fantastic work, and it was a fun process!

It was an amazing experience to develop my character, from the free archetype adventure on the webpage, to the smaller details and clarifications, I never felt that it was a chore for Jan to draw what I had in mind, even if I was apprehensive at first. The communication between us made me comfortable to open up and share whatever I imagined about my character. What's more important, you deal with a real artist who will put their own personal touch on your character, will offer input on certain details, ask questions that are meant to give you a clearer picture, and make even the perosnality of your character shine. Not a LLM chatbot that will just copy and paste whatever it has found online, present the "edgelord" version of your vision, and whatever corrections you make, two more flaws appear like a hydra.

Revin is the character I was able to make thanks to winning the Hall of Heroes raffle. And I'm once again blown away by how Jan is able to capture my characters in these pieces. He's my next character in a new campaign, and I am so happy with how he turned out. Jan was able to create it from my references and requests exactly how I thought of him in my mind, even being able to make any alterations to the piece quickly. Communication is always easy, and never feels like a hassle or chore. This is the second piece I've had made by Jan, and there will be many more in the future!

This was my first commissioned art piece & I wasn't sure what to expect. I went in with the assumption that I'd probably be a little disappointed with the final product because I didn't exactly know what to ask for. But Jan did such a great job on Tyffan'i that I ended up buying both versions. I basically gave the guidelines 'College of Dance Bard/Spring Eladrin/no pirate-y bard outfits/secretly writes romance novels under a pen name so maybe add some books/make it so much more pink than you think is enough pink' & they somehow still knocked it out of the park.
Dianne E. 5/5 Verified
Honestly, this is SO MUCH BETTER than I was expecting. This artwork really captures my character. But more importantly, it captures what I want to look like if I lived in this world. I honestly can’t express enough of just how much I love this and how happy I am with it. And I can’t thank Jan enough for all of her hard work into making this.

Jan is such an incredible artist and an even better person. She makes it feel very comfortable to express changes and revisions, and she makes it an all around non pressure and fun experience to purchase art from her! I really appreciate the in depth level she goes to find about the characters she draws, the time and effort put into her website, and the open and honest communication. She always updated me on where she was with my art, asked a lot of questions to make sure I was happy with the finished product, and did not put any kind of pressure on in the slightest. I’m so thrilled with my art and I cannot wait to work with her again!

Another fantastic piece and another solid example of why FramedFantasy is my go-to for all commissions of my characters. Jan's detail is second-to-none and her level of communication makes it easy to really hone in on what you're looking for. This particular piece had some special requests and she delivered like she always does.

I couldn't ask for a better result! I gave Jan the concept for the primary antagonist of my D&D campaign and she took it away and made something incredible. She kept me up to date, worked, showed me different versions and made changes to the design when I asked so we could work together to get something that matched my vision in her artistic style. Couldn't recommend enough! Thank you so much for bringing to life a character thay I've had in my head for years!

Jan was very thorough and asked very insightful questions about my Dnd character. She really wanted to make sure she understood the character in order to properly represent them in the art. The turn around time was also quite quick considering she provides you with 2 versions to choose from. I love my character art so much! I had several other artists turn me down due to the high complexity of the character (he was born with a leg deformity), but Jan stepped up to the challenge. I am so excited to see my character come together into one! He was from my first ever campaign and he made it through from start to finish (campaign lasted a year playing weekly), so he is very special to me. Thank you again Jan!
