Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
Easier than rolling initiative:
- Click "Start Your Portrait" and check out. You'll receive my Character Blueprint right after.
- Fill it out your way. Some clients write novels, others just a few lines. Both work. Include reference images or let me work from description alone. Many players like seeing their character through fresh eyes.
- I review everything. If anything's unclear, I'll ask quick questions to make sure I understand your vision. (I accept all commissions except NSFW or heavy gore. In the rare case I can't take yours, you get a same-day full refund.)
- See your character in ~2 weeks. Most clients are happy with the first concept and just request minor tweaks. But you get unlimited revisions until it feels right.
- Living Motion delivery. If you ordered the animation, it arrives 3-5 days after the final portrait.
There's no risk. If the first polished draft isn't your character, you get your money back.
How do I describe my character?
I'll guide you through step by step. Most of my clients are first-time commissioners, so you're in good company.
If you want to prepare ahead, grab the free Character Blueprint and fill out as much or as little as you're comfortable with.
Otherwise, just place your order and I'll walk you through everything from there. My goal is to make this easy.
What's the money-back guarantee?
After I deliver your polished first draft (around 2 weeks), you have 3 days to decide if it feels right. If not, email me and I'll refund your full commission price.
Once revisions start, the guarantee ends.
That's it. Simple and risk-free so you can commission with confidence.

What if I don't have visual references?
That's fine. While visuals like HeroForge screenshots or sketches help, a detailed written description is enough to get started.
Is this hand-drawn?
Yes. Every portrait is hand-drawn digitally, detail by detail.
I personally work on each commission. Every scar placement, expression, armor detail, and lighting choice comes from my hand and my interpretation of your character. No two portraits look the same because no two characters are the same.
This is why I can capture things like the subtle way your warlock holds tension in their shoulders, or the specific weathering on your fighter's armor that tells their story.
Those details don't happen by accident. They happen because a real artist reads your description, makes creative decisions, and draws them intentionally.
Why not just use ChatGPT?
ChatGPT art is generic. It can't capture what makes YOUR character unique.
Your character has a specific scar placement. A particular expression. The way they hold their weapon. ChatGPT doesn't know any of that. So every session, you're stuck explaining "well, imagine this but different."
A real portrait becomes the definitive version everyone pictures. No more explaining. Just your character, exactly right.
And that ChatGPT image? You'll forget about it next week. A commissioned portrait? You'll still love it years after the campaign ends.
You've spent 100+ hours with this character. They're worth more than placeholder art.
Can you draw complex/homebrew characters?
Yes. I've painted hundreds of complex, homebrew, and unusual characters. Custom races with multiple appendages, intricate magical effects, unconventional designs. If you can describe it, I can paint it.
Two options:
- Email me first at Jan@FondlyFramed.com with your concept if you want reassurance before ordering
- Order directly and we'll sort out details after checkout
If I genuinely can't execute your vision (the only exclusions are heavy gore or NSFW), you get a full same-day refund. No risk.
Can I have multiple characters in a portrait?
Yes. For group portraits, each character needs its own individual order.
Here's how it works:
- I create each character individually
- Once every character is complete and approved, each person gets their own high-res individual portrait
- I combine all characters into a single group composition with a custom background
Orders of three or more characters include a free custom background. I'll handle the details when we get there.
