Your character deserves to exist outside your imagination.
They've lived in your head for years. You know their expression when they lie. The scar they never talk about. The way they stand when they think nobody's watching.
You don't need another artist. You need someone who speaks writer.
Here's What Happens
You fill out the Character Blueprint. No art jargon. You answer story questions you already know. Personality, backstory, emotional weight. I translate from there.
You see a polished portrait in 14 days. Not a rough sketch. A fully painted piece you can evaluate. Regular updates throughout. No silence. No ghosting.
We refine until you feel it. Unlimited revisions. If the first concept misses, full refund. That's the Author's Guarantee. You pay for your character, not for attempts.
Beyond the Portrait
Need more than a character portrait? I also create book covers, promotional art, and full character designs for authors building their visual world. Email me at Jan@framedfantasy.com for custom projects.

Most of my clients had never commissioned art before. They chose me because the process is built for writers, not art directors.
Your character has waited long enough.

About Me
👋 I'm Jan. I translate writer language into visual reality.
Whether it's a protagonist from your novel, a side character who stole the whole story, or an OC who's lived in your head since you were fifteen, I've painted hundreds of them for writers like you.
So when you say "kind but dangerous eyes" or "weathered but not old," I know what you mean. And I'll ask about the story behind it, because that's where the portrait actually lives.
Why writers trust me with their characters:
500+ portraits delivered since 2023, with 300+ five star reviews. Many from first time commissioners who were terrified to try.
The Character Blueprint captures your character through narrative, not art direction. You describe what you know. I handle the rest.
This is my full time work, and I work on every portrait with my team of vetted artists. Scheduled timelines, regular updates, replies within one business day. No chasing. No ghosting.
No surprises. Straight pricing, no hidden fees, and a money back guarantee if the first concept isn't right.

Blown away with how incredible Jan's art is & how she managed to bring to life a character from my friend's book based only on the written descriptions. Will definitely be coming back & Jan is just so lovely to communicate with! So incredibly happy!

Love and appreciation are not enough for how I feel about this artwork turned out. I am an indie writer and to see my beloved main character come to life in such a way means the world to me. She was perfectly brought to life. Do I recommend? A thousand times over, yes!

This was my first time commissioning art so I was a little nervous at first about what to expect. But Jan made the process super easy, and the character blueprint sheet was a big help! Jan was incredible to work with, and the detail really shows. I cannot recommend him enough.

I am stunned with how these came out! I loved them so much I got three variations of my FMC and she's exactly what I pictured when I wrote her! Jan is patient and knew exactly how to translate my ramblings. The process was seamless and quick!! Already got another one in the works.

He did it again! Definitely delivered my MMC from my upcoming debut novel! He showcased my characters more friendly side and battle ready side in two variations! Everytime there is art commissioned, I always leave wanting to commission more.

At first I was a little concerned by the price. But I can tell you, fully, it was worth it. The care and time the artist took with what I wanted can not say enough about the character of the artist. It really felt like they cared about bringing my character to life. They took everything I said, and applied it to their artwork. I can not say enough good things about this process. Easy to reach, happy to take ideas and even easier to work with.
This was my first time ever getting art done for a character, and if you are the fence, I could not recommend -this- artist enough.
I am an author looking to get artwork done for my books, and I was well taken care of. My vision of my character came to life. Wonderful artist and highly recommend!
She absolutely killed this custom cover for my story!! it's everything i wanted! I've gotten so many compliments on it already!! Highly recommend her work!🤍
I absolutely love the final product! Jan asks questions and really gets to know your character, right down to the mood of the portrait. She's a pleasure to work with and does stunning work.
I come to Jan for all my character art in my books and she always delivers a great item! This is probably the 4th time I've left a review. She is easy to work with and puts in the effort to make sure she understands what you are asking for. The whole process does tend to take a while though, so make sure you order the image far in advance of when you actually need it.
I ordered several character pieces for my debut gothic dystopian romance. Jan was wonderful to work with and asked extremely detailed questions to get the pieces right. She corrected things quickly and was a breeze to work with. She's definitely found a repeat customer! Thank you, Jan!
Jan was amazing to work with and I was able to add on this second version of character art after giving me a few options. Will definitely work with her again!
Jan was amazing to work with and I ended up with four pieces to use in my book marketing. She was timely and very responsive to any adjustments I asked for. She captured exactly the vibe and likeness I'd described, and I couldn't be happier with the final designs. Will definitely work with her again for more character art! Thank you!!
Jan was great to work with and knows her craft really well. She was able to share her recommendations with me about my custom art project and was able to complete my commission in a timely manner with a shortened deadline. I would definitely work with her again for any future pieces!
Working with this artist has been an absolute dream - they did three pieces for my debut novel and I will most definitely be coming back for the sequel. The attention to detail was amazing and every time I got a rough draft they took my notes happily and was able to really bring my characters to life!
Jan was amazing to work with! She made the cover for my fantasy book, from the gorgeous picture of the main character to the finished layout, and she was friendly, patient, and professional every step of the way. This is my first book cover, and I really appreciate that Jan made it such a positive experience. I will definitely be working with her again!
FramedFantasy is so amazing to work with! Jan really made sure to take all my thoughts and ideas into consideration when crafting my character art for my upcoming novel, THE SOUL STITCHER. The art itself is so beautiful, she really captured my vision and brought my MMC to life!! I was obsessed (and still am!) I will be commissioning another piece from her this month! She is professional and timely, with great updates on how the art is coming. Definitely recommend her for your character design needs!
Jan is a dream to work with! I commissioned her for 11 pieces of artwork to celebrate my D&D group's 10 year anniversary, and every single piece turned out amazing! She created a mix of character portraits and landscape pieces, and she treated each piece with incredible care and attention to detail. From the beginning, I knew I was going to get the pieces printed and bound into an art book, and Jan was great about keeping key elements away from the sides and away from the center so I could print them full bleed. The book came out amazing, and I'm so grateful to Jan for helping to bring my group's special memories to life!
Jan was fantastic to work with. I wasn't totally sure how to commission my character art, what information would be necessary / useful, or even what I was truly looking for. I just knew Jan showcased artwork really appealed to me and I wanted to visualize my main character in my book. Jan took all of my info, asked clarifying questions, and turned my jumbled up idea into a gorgeous rendering of my character. She is everything I ever wanted. I'm so happy to have worked with Jan and received such a lovely piece of art. I will most definitely be coming back to have her draw my male main character!
Jan was so easy to work with and very patient through our requested edits. The final piece is lovely, and I'll be commissioning more art from her in the future for sure.
I scoured the internet for hours, convinced that the perfect person to design my book cover didn't exist, but Jan was wonderful to work with! Her responses were fast and friendly, and she made all the adjustments I requested. The final product is beautiful and looks just like I imagined it! I'll keep her in mind for all my character designing needs!
Jan is super responsive, collaborative, and friendly. Her add-ons are so affordable - I initially commissioned just 1 portrait, but ended up purchasing 4. She's a terrific artist and it was such a pleasure to work with her.
