three rolls at death’s door

Your character is down, and Sister Maren allows no spells here. Roll the death saves.

Your character is down on the stone floor of Sister Maren’s chapel, between two rows of three candles. Maren allows no spells under her roof, healing included, so the dice decide.

The death saves. Roll a d20 for each one. 10 or higher lights a white candle, and 9 or lower lights a red one. Three white candles and your character holds on, and three red ones and the party carries them home. A natural 1 lights two red candles at once, and a natural 20 sits your character up with 1 hit point.

Maren keeps a shelf of small candles on the chapel wall, one for every night she has kept watch on that floor. White is for holding on, red for the cart home and gold for getting up on a 20.

Find out who your character really is.
