a price on your character’s head
Put your character on Sheriff Hobb’s wanted poster. The reward decides who comes hunting.
Sheriff Hobb of Marrow’s End tacks a fresh wanted poster to the town board and dips his pen. Tell him your character’s name and what they did, from the vault nobody was supposed to open to a duke insulted in rhyme in his own hall, and he writes it up in his best hand.
The reward. Hobb starts at a price for the charge and adds 10 gold for every point you roll on a d20 and two d6. A natural 20 doubles it. A natural 1 blots the ink, so the number reads 9, 90 or 900, and everybody comes.
Who comes hunting. Under 170 gold, two farmhands with one pitchfork stop to read it. From 170 it’s a pair of sellswords off the Hollow Stump road. From 280 the ranger who never blinks comes herself, with a dwarf who keeps a ledger. A doubled reward brings half the street out in the rain.
For the DM. Put a price on a player’s character the night before you play, send them the poster, then roll a d6 for who comes. On a 1 it’s two farmhands who give up at the first locked door, on a 2 a pair of sellswords who’ll take half the reward to look the other way, and on a 3 a ranger who tracks the party by the mud on their boots. A 4 is a dwarf with a crossbow and a ledger who has caught nine and wants ten, a 5 is Hobb’s own mother, who knows everyone’s mother, and a 6 is someone who never takes a poster down, only copies it.
Nobody in Marrow’s End has seen your character’s face yet.
